Horse Welfare
Racing with Heart, Retiring with Honour
At Pulse Racing Thoroughbreds, our commitment to excellence extends far beyond the racetrack. While our passion for horse racing drives us to achieve amazing results for owners on the track, our dedication to the welfare of our equine athletes is equally paramount. We are thrilled to introduce our comprehensive Horse Welfare Program, ensuring that every horse that races in the Pulse Racing silks is guaranteed a happy and fulfilling retirement after their racing career.
The Heart of Our Program
The Pulse Welfare Program at Pulse Racing Thoroughbreds is built on the foundation of respect, care, and responsibility. We believe that every horse, after giving their best on the track, deserves a peaceful and rewarding post-racing life. Our program is meticulously designed to provide each horse with a suitable and loving home, where they are treated with care for the entirety of the post-racing life.
Success Stories
Our commitment is exemplified by the success stories of Martini Crusader, Beau Constricta and more recently a yearling we purchased, three of our cherished thoroughbreds who have seamlessly transitioned into their new lives.
Martini Crusader: This spirited thoroughbred has found a new home as a pony horse on a picturesque farm. Martini Crusader won 2 races and placed in 7 others, accruing over $100,000 for his owners. Martini Crusader, known for his calm demeanor and reliable nature, is now enjoying the serene farm life, where he will live a relaxed lifestyle. His new role not only utilizes his strengths but also provides him with the tranquility and care he deserves. A big thank you to Stephen and Steph O’Halloran, who have done the heavy lifting in finding Martini a home.
Beau Constricta: Once a promising horse that won many trials and started at Moonee Valley for Ciaron Maher, Beau Constricta’s career ended early as she sustained a disease in her lungs. Beau Constricta is now embarking on a new journey as a Professional Polo horse for Windsor Polo Club, under the care of Sam Gardiner. Due to the filly’s young age and physical make up, she was the ideal candidate for this pathway. Beau's agility, intelligence, and willingness to learn are making her a promising candidate for this new chapter, ensuring that his post-racing life is filled with purpose and excitement.
Russian Revolution x Dream Faith filly: The Pulse Racing Bloodstock team picked up this filly from the 2024 Inglis Classic Sale where she scoped a Grade 1 and was rated low risk on x-rays. Unfortunately, in her first preparation it was discovered through a dynamic scope that the filly has a rare “1 in a million” condition that forced her to an early retirement. She has since returned to Chamberlain Park to enjoy retirement at her place of birth and possibly be a broodmare later in her life. Although an unfortunate situation, Pulse Racing was able to absorb the financial loss and personally reimburse all money paid by her owners.
Our Commitment to All Our Horses
Our Horse Welfare Program is not limited to a select few. Every horse that races for Pulse Racing Thoroughbreds is part of this commitment. From the moment they join our team, their welfare is our top priority. We work tirelessly to identify the best possible retirement scenarios for each horse, whether that be in equestrian sports, as companion animals, or in other fulfilling roles.
How We Do It - Pulse Welfare Trust
In each PDS at the purchase of the horse, $2,000 will be contributed to a separate trust account, and will be used as needed for our horse’s post-racing career. In a large number of cases, horses will be sold for breeding or racing purposes at a profit to owners, or re-homed at no cost, so that $2,000 won’t be used for those particular horses. In that case, the money will be used to go to other Pulse Racing Thoroughbreds horses who do need re-homing. In the instance that there is a surplus of funds that doesn’t get used for any Pulse horses, we will donate the money to the charities that support the re-homing and re-training of racehorses. Every last cent will be used for the re-homing and re-training of race-horses.
Stay tuned for more updates and heartwarming stories from our Pulse Welfare Program. Together, we are making a difference, one horse at a time.
